E-MOTION AEROBICS™

Unlocking Your Emotional Potential

Where Movement Becomes Feeling, and Feeling Becomes Art

Developed by innovative mime artist Janet Carafa, E-Motion Aerobics™ revolutionizes how we engage with our emotions. In a world often disconnected from our inner selves, this groundbreaking technique offers a journey into the heart of our “emotional body.”

Through a dynamic fusion of physical movement, facial expression, and vocalization, participants of all ages embark on a transformative experience. Discover the physical language of your emotions, explore their nuances, and participate in an “Emotional Symphony” that brings inner experiences to vibrant life.

For children, E-Motion Aerobics™ is a fun way to learn about and express their feelings. This helps develop emotional intelligence early, enhances self-awareness, and provides healthy outlets for expression. For adults, it’s an opportunity to reconnect with their emotional selves, enhance communication skills, and rediscover the power of non-verbal expression.

Whether you’re an actor seeking to expand your range, a professional looking to enhance emotional intelligence, or simply curious about the depths of human expression, E-Motion Aerobics™ offers an unparalleled opportunity to connect with your emotional self.

The Process:

E-Motion Aerobics™ takes place in a designated space with four clearly marked spots, each representing a different emotion. For this example, we’ll use Joy, Sadness, Anger, and Fear.

  1. Stepping into Emotion: Four participants simultaneously step onto a designated emotion spot. They then embody that emotion through three distinct phases:
    • Facial Expression: Participants convey the chosen emotion through their facial expressions.
    • Body Alignment: The participants’ posture and stance shift to reflect the physical manifestation of the emotion.
    • Movement and Activity: Maintaining eye contact with the teacher or audience, participants devise a repetitive movement or activity that embodies the emotion. This could range from joyful skipping to a clenched fist representing anger.
  2. Exploring Intensity: The teacher guides the participants to modulate the intensity of their expression, making it larger and then smaller, encouraging a deeper understanding of the nuances within each emotion.
  3. Finding Neutral: Participants step out of the emotion spot and return to a neutral state, both physically and emotionally.
  4. Shifting Emotions: Participants rotate to a different emotion spot and repeat the process, embodying a new feeling through facial expression, body alignment, movement, and activity.
  5. The Emotional Symphony: As participants explore different emotions, the exercise evolves into the “Emotional Symphony.” The teacher prompts the group to vocalize a sound corresponding to their current emotion. This creates a symphony of sounds, highlighting the raw and varied expressions of human emotion. The teacher guides the group to explore the dynamics of the soundscape, increasing and decreasing volume, creating a powerful, shared experience.
